My Alpha Chi Omega journey started well before my freshman year of college. My mother and oldest sister are Alpha Chis, so growing up I just thought it was something I would be. When I chose to attend Virginia Tech, I realized this wouldn't be an option since the chapter on campus was inactive. Lucky for me, Alpha Chi Omega reestablished the Epsilon Tau chapter my sophomore year and my dream of wearing the lyre badge came true.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, I travelled as a chapter consultant and have those sisters to thank for keeping me involved and being by my side through life. To me, being a real, strong woman is about being empowered and helping to empower others. The past few years, my story has come full circle. I volunteer locally on the Nu (University of Colorado Boulder) chapter advisory board and nationally as a new chapter development specialist. I get to work with new chapters and see the impact Alpha Chi Omega has on our collegiate members, just like it impacted me.

Today, I support the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation because when I look back at my experiences, I gained more knowledge about communication, organization, professional development, decision-making and responsibility through Alpha Chi Omega than anywhere else. Alpha Chi Omega gave me the opportunity to practice and apply learned skills before stepping out into the real world.

Making a contribution to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation is a way to give back to an organization that has given so much to me. I know I would not be the woman I am today if it had not been for Alpha Chi Omega and the bonds I have formed, women I have had the honor to volunteer with and leadership roles I had the ability to serve in. The thought of my contribution allowing another Alpha Chi sister to have these same opportunities is enough of a reason for me to pay it forward.

As soon as the Foundation Partners giving program was introduced, I knew it was something I wanted to do. I give to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation because I have seen first-hand how the educational experiences and opportunities provided to our collegiate and alumnae sisters make a difference. Through Let's Talk Love, Leadership Academy and Women & Wisdom, I've watched our members grow, learn and be able to use the tools and knowledge gained to enhance their lives. I give monthly so programs like these can keep making an impact for years to come.

I started giving monthly to our Foundation 38 years ago. It was my way of maintaining a connection with Alpha Chi Omega since my local community did not have an alumnae chapter that met regularly. Each month as I write a check to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation and mail it by snail mail (yes, I am old school), I embrace that moment to reflect on my collegiate days at Alpha Chi. I know that every time I contribute to the Foundation, I am making a difference in the lives of many young women across the nation. It is unlikely that I would have contributed the total monetary amount to the Foundation that I have if I had not made this monthly commitment so many years ago. Indeed, when real, strong women come together, anything is possible.
